Grow your Business in the South of France Region

Back in February of this year, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Mayor Kevin Faulconer and Bernard Deflesselles, regional vice president of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region in the South of France.

“San Diego and the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region have so much in common: our biotech, our tourism, our trade,” said Mayor Kevin Faulconer, describing the agreement as a “road map to new opportunities.”

And the numbers speak for themselves: in 2016, the PACA region counted 41,000 Life sciences actors including 13,000 researchers and an annual R&D investment of € 3 billion. The region has been supporting the creation of new businesses (+14.5% in 4 years) and has attracted foreign investments: 1,740 companies with foreign capital representing more than 72, 000 jobs.

Leading international life sciences companies in PACA include Provepharm, Median Technologies, Neuroservice and Abreos France.  “The PACA Region is to my opinion, one of the most attractive places for any biotech companies thanks to its scientific institutes, the regional tax incentives and the great collaborative ecosystem” said Brad Messmer, CEO of Abreos SD and Abreos France.

Successful biotech companies such as Genbiotech is a major innovation provider in cell and a spin-out of Laboratoires Genévrier. Galderma Research and Development Center, a 50-50 joint venture of l’Oreal and Nestle, generates more than $1.5 billion revenues and is considered as the largest laboratory in the world dedicated solely to dermatology products.

Marseille- Luminy Immunopole, a cluster dedicated to innovation, achieved one of the most advanced work in immunology and monoclonal antibodies in the world. It includes major immunotherapy actors such as Innate Pharma, HalioDx, Siamed, Imcheck Therapeutics or CoralBiome.

Since 2014, BIOCOM and the french Cluster Eurobiomed have partnered to create great success by organizing a delegation of companies willing to explore the possibility of expanding in PACA region and benefit from all incentives it offers.

According to Joe Panetta, CEO of BIOCOM: ” The PACA region of France has impressed us with the level of sophistication of its biomedical research and development efforts and as much with the hospitality and collaborative attitude of the industry companies and associations that are here”.

The next delegation will come this fall and selected life sciences companies of San Diego will have the great opportunity to meet with major international companies and institutes in Oncology, Immunology, Neurosciences and Digital Health.
